Employment type – Full time, temporary up to 12 months

Salary – 7/8, Salary ($101,947.00 - $112,849.00 pa) plus superannuation & annual leave loading


Your role


We are looking for a passionate, self-motivated and collaborative candidate, who brings key program and policy skills to support the coordination of key projects in the Diversion team.


The Diversion team sits within the Women, Family and Community Safety (WFCS) Directorate, which is responsible for policy, programs and projects addressing women’s safety, domestic and family violence, crime prevention and diversion.


The Diversion team, within WFCS, develops policy and programs that improve responses for vulnerable and complex groups in contact with the criminal justice system, particularly people with mental health and cognitive impairment and Aboriginal communities. This includes designing and delivering policy and programs aimed at:

  • supporting people with mental health and cognitive impairment
  • addressing problematic alcohol and drug (AOD) substance use
  • reducing reoffending


What you’ll do


The Magistrate Early Referral into Treatment (MERIT) program is a pre-plea, voluntary, diversionary program, currently in 62 NSW Local Courts. On 21 September 2022 the NSW Government announced a $35.1 million investment over four years, to expand MERIT to additional local court sites. The overall expansion will have MERIT operational in 29 additional courts (accepting alcohol and other drug referrals) and enhance nine existing sites to accept alcohol referrals. The expansion of MERIT is jointly led by the NSW Department of Communities (DCJ) and Justice and the NSW Ministry of Health.


You will play an integral part of the team, supporting with the expansion of MERIT as well as the day-to-day coordination and program governance.


You will support with stakeholder management towards achieving key outcomes in expansion locations, coordinate data collection, provide strategic advice on emerging program and policy issues. You will responsible for coordinating program annual reports and other program communication tools and use systems to support project management and governance.


What we’re looking for


  • Experience in supporting the development and delivery of strategic projects related to vulnerable people and the justice system, or other similar complex social policy settings.
  • Strong analytical data analysis and writing skills.
  • Experience in using various project management tools.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, support with key program governance groups.
